Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Sculpting Powder Makeup SPF 10

Using advancing mineral makeup technology, this formula gives complexions 100% natural, mineral pigments with Dior's exclusive active mineralized water. All you end up with is flawless, glowing skin that actually improves over time. Three shades blend together for flawless harmonized color to highlight, or use each shade separately to contour and sculpt. I love how it gives my cheeks an all over luminous glow and is still natural looking. The Dior sales associate stated that this can be used as a powder foundation, although I did not try this. I got the fourth of the five shades, and it had a lot of color so not sure it would work for most. This comes in Beige Praline(020), Sable Rose(032), The Passion(033), Golden Caramel(040) and Café Moka(050). Over all I like this powder and give it a B. Great product but at $50 it’s a bit pricey hence the B and not A!

What to do with all of those gift set shower gels, do tell!

Ever buy a perfume gift set because it was a mere few dollars more than the price of the lone bottle. Especially now, with the Holidays fast approaching and the fragrance gift sets are abundant! And once again, the skilled sales associate has convinced you that you must have it. But you know you will never use the shower gels that come in them and you know they will sit and collect dust and just take up room in your beauty treasure trove. What to do with them?

I’ve come up with a few things that I do with mine, they don’t go to waste and I have new uses for my favorite scents! One thing I love to do is use it as a delicate wash. Add a bit to your sink full of cold water and soak your delicates. I’ve also added it into my wash cycle in the washing machine for softly scented clothes. I have a front loading washer these days so I fill the detergent dispenser to about ¼ the detergent capacity, this is plenty since they use very little detergent to begin with.

Another use I get from these is to use them as a hand wash. My guest’s always muse over this! For the 1.7oz tubes that normally come in the sets, I add all of the contents into my soap dispenser and fill the rest with unscented hand soap. I use an unscented biodegradable and sulfate free base I get from a craft supplier. It comes in various sizes and is great for making any thing in liquid soap form such as shampoo, detergent, liquid soap, etc.

These are just a few suggestions; there are many more things you can do with them! Waste not; want not, I’m sure my Mother has told me this many times. Maybe this one stuck!

The shimmer of falling snow flakes

It’s still early in the season, but my list is growing ever long. So I took some time to go out and see the many enticing goodies I had on my list. And I picked up a few that at the moment I just couldn’t live without! One of the items I ended up taking home was not even on my list, Estee Lauders Opulent Shimmer Powder from their Ultimate Red Holiday collection. I’d posted the collection a few days before and in the pictures, this did not jump out at me. Just another shimmer powder, is what I thought. Oh no, not just another shimmer powder I tell you! This one is stunning; you must see it to appreciate it. It has shades of gold and champagne that gives a luminous glow rather than a shimmer, like an angelic halo of light hit at just the right places. I’ve worn it twice now, once on an evening outing and once again to work in the office. Usually I wouldn’t wear something like this to the office, but with this one I could pull it off! It can be layered for a more dramatic effect, which is what I’d done when I went out for the evening. I think the champagne tones make it more wearable than a lot of the other one’s I have that are just gold, silver or even pink. Although all of those are great, they would have to be used for a specific look or occasion; I certainly couldn’t wear them into the office and look appropriate for the business world! Overall, I give this an A, for quality, price and oh so pretty packaging!

Twirly, Curly and all Girly

I must admit, that I am a true curly haired gal who fakes smooth straight hair. I don’t like to wash my hair every day so I found it much easier to straight iron my hair and wash it 2-3 times a week than to wear it curly. But this isn’t for everyone, and even I like to let the curls loose once in awhile! So let’s talk tips on how to achieve and maintain soft curls that are frizz free. This could go on forever so we will just do the basics. Whether you have tight curls, loose curls, thin hair or thick hair, this should work for you.

What we must understand right off the bat is that curly hair tends to be drier and needs moisture to keep the curls soft. When I lived on the East Coast I had a head of soft loose curls that only needed a bit of frizz serum. I would suggest you use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, actually I would say this is a must! If your scalp tends to get oily, use a shampoo for oily scalp and only cleanse your scalp and avoid putting shampoo on the ends. Just briefly run the suds through to the ends. Then condition only your ends, and leave the conditioner off of your scalp. If your and hair and scalp are dry, cleanse and condition your scalp and hair. Once you are done washing and conditioning, use a leave in conditioner. A light weight spray conditioner will work fine. If you have thick hair you should use a leave-in, but if your hair is fine and thin, you can skip this step to avoid weighing it down. Next and most important is to use a curl enhancing cream or a frizz control serum, or both if need be. Most serums are silicone based and act as a cuticle sealer and work well if you already have a lot of curl and just want to control the frizz. Curl enhancing creams do the same but without silicone. Curl creams enhance the shape of your curl and help your hair to keep the curl for much longer. So if you have that in between curl, curl creams are great. Tigi makes an excellent curl cream called Curls Rock; I’ve used this many times and love it. My all time favorite is from Bumble and Bumble, called Curl Conscious Cream. It is light weight yet holds the shape of your curl and keeps you frizz free until your next wash. A few great items you can find at Target and Walgreens or CVS are John Frieda Frizz-Ease Serum and Umberto Giannini Curl and Twirl Line. Both are excellent lines and offer many different products.

With all of these products, it’s important to use the right amount and application technique. Curl creams can be used more abundantly than frizz serums. Frizz Serums are silicon based and too much serum can make you look greasy. For longer hair I start out with a quarter sized dollop of curl cream with a dab of frizz serum mixed in and work it into sections of the hair. With serums I start out with a nickel size dollop. Work the product into small sections of hair at a time, ending by twirling pieces of your hair round your finger to form loose curls. Or you can scrunch section by section, depending on the look you are after. You can also throw a mousse into the mixture, mix the curl cream or serum with some mousse and you can have volume as well as curl. I do this only at the crown for a bit of lift. You will have to go by trial and error to see how much product will work for you. Just remember that you need to use enough to coat your hair but not too much that you over do it. Its easier to add then take away!

When blow-drying your hair always, always use a diffuser. Never blow dry your hair without one! You will undo all of the work you’ve just done. A diffuser puts out heat but no air. The air blowing your hair around will re-open the cuticle, and out come the frizzies! Most blow-dryers come with one, and if not you can pick one up for around $5.

After all of that hard work, you may not want to wash your hair everyday. So, you can refresh by spritzing water to reactivate the curl products and apply a bit more if needed. And using a dry shampoo at the scalp area will absorb oil and odor without ruining your curls. I do this even when I wear my hair straight!

I know that sounds like a lot but it’s really not. Let’s break down what you need; moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, leave-in conditioner if needed, curl enhancers and a diffuser. That’s it! So get going and enjoy your curls!
